Oldie Goodie

Here's an old classic that will make you feel happy to be alive. Of course, I had to start the thread with something that everyone can blast and sing along with. Honestly, I think Toots & the Maytals, with their notoriously well-blended voices, surpass the original (by John Denver). The Toots and the Maytals were pivotal at the inception of Reggae Ska music and hold the record for most number one hits in Jamaica (31 hits).

Just copy and paste this link.

yall should check out JJ Grey and Mofro, local south carolina band that will rock your socks off. and if you are a sex lover like me, you are in luc, they rip it up. the show at the orange blossom in asheville, nc is a sick show. and their new album orange blossom is just awesome. some good 'ol southern rock, blues, and a hint of country. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7CUR2cozts

also, the director of the video, Spookie Daly, is the leader of another pretty good band that plays on nantucket every year, Spookie Daly Pride. good fun. check em out

  8. here's another couple to check out:
grace potter and the nocturnals - grace potter plays the keys, guitar, drums sometimes!, writes the songs, and is mad sexy. like very hot. they perform all over the place in the summer, ive seen them like 3 or 4 times, the play on nantucket and at all good festivals. check em out. the drummer is cool and they just added a sex last summer too!

paul butterfield/butterfield blues band - some good ol blues and jam. they are wicked good, but were not around long since butterfield died in the 70's. otherwise, its def worth a listen. i first heard them on one of my friend's old vinyls! ps records are the way forward for rediscovering old music.

jessica, this blog is a f-ing great idea. i'm probably as pumped as you are about it. way to go mate. cheers

also check out the Black Seeds while you are at it, they are from New Zealand as well. they put on a SICK SHOW too. I saw them in Napier, North Island New Zealand last year. so good. John Brown's Body opened for them. they are also really good, lots of instruments when they feel like it. they are playing at the Nateva Fest jess! so that's going to be someone we have to go see! they are real good, Liz introduced me to them.

ok i guess I'll let someone else have the floor.

  14. Speaking of local south carolina bands...a buddy i worked with a couple years ago turned me on to his friend's quasi reggae band called The Movement. Much more of a hip hop feel, but great happy summer music.

Here's a good track from them, although you can't find all the songs off the cd on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTEuxjhs25E

Also, another fave by Rebelution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6cMkhhqn6k
